IEM Dallas Takes Aways For Evil Geniuses
The North American closed qualifier for Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Dallas pits the likes of Complexity Gaming, GODSENT, Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses against the best and brightest from North America’s amateur Counter-Strike ecosystem. And while Evil Geniuses’ hopes to compete at IEM Dallas may be dashed, there are some key takeaways fans can rest their hats on in hopes that the stories North American franchise can bounce back in a big way.
Tsvetelin “CeRq” Dimitrov had an impressive set against Team Liquid, throughout their best of three. Ending the series with 60 kills, a +12 kill to death differential, dealing 87.4 average damage per round (ADR), and boasting a 1.21 HLTV.org rating. While they would eventually succumb to their fellow North American rivals, it’s important to note individual overperformances when they occur–and CeRq had a wonderful outing. And he just holds a torch to the ground the EG have covered these last few weeks, the team has made improvements and they were visible during this set with Team Liquid.
In their set against Party Astronauts, Evil Geniuses swept the competition in stunning fashion. Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte continued to have an impressive performance showcasing why he has been EG’s biggest and most consistent weapon within the last few weeks. Finishing the set with 53 kills, a massive +23 kill to death differential, a 97.7 ADR, and a staggering 1.43 HLTV.org rating. Past that Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip and Timothy “autimatic” Ta ended with a positive kill to death ratio, however, it was William “RUSH” Wierzba to come in with a quiet but strong statistical performance. With 36 kills, a +10 kill to death differential, 65 ADR, over 78% KAST (kill, assist, survive, trade), and a respectable 1.16 HLTV.org rating. And this wasn’t the opportunity to flex a bit of their might.
Against Carpe Diem, Evil Geniuses continued to show out, namely Brehze. Dropping an astounding 71 kills, a +20 kill to death ratio, 87.1 ADR, 70 KAST, and a 1.25 HLTV.org rating is no small feat and to see Brehze so consistently manage this average is flat out impressive. Standing next to him on the statistical leaderboards is Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip who took confident control of the server as team captain. Ending the 2-1 victory with 58 kills, a +7 kill to death ratio and an HLTV.org rating of 1.25, Stewie2K proved that he is far from someone to write off.
This goes to showcase the raw, unfiltered talent this roster has and still possesses–but its clear changes need to be made and we’re positive Evil Geniuses are looking to make them. Less around scraping the roster and starting again but even just something as small as allowing more opportunities for Brehze to shine, finding more ways for CeRq to anchor sites, and bringing Timothy “autimatic” Ta into the fold as a potential second consistent weapon for the team to count on.
Evil Geniuses are far from done. Disregard any kind of community narrative or spin put on a story, this is a roster that can compete and has room to grow into itself. Bet on it.
