What we can learn from Arteezy
Almost no one would disagree with the sentiment that Artour “Arteezy” Babaev is one of the most extraordinary Dota 2 players in the game’s history. He has exhibited tremendous talent—innovating the Carry position and raising the role to new heights never before achieved.
He’s achieved incredible results by winning some of the most prestigious and stacked tournaments in the world. Most importantly, his story is one of the most inspiring in the game. Taking a deeper look at his career shows someone that makes the most of the opportunities he is given.
Arteezy wasn’t always the giant of the game he is today. For a while in his youth, he kept a very low profile. He spent time on smaller teams, usually only competing in tiny online events. Soon, though, that all changed. Acting as a substitute mid-laner for Speed Gaming, the young man was given the opportunity to compete at MLG Championship Columbus.
He made the most of it. Not only did he turn heads by outperforming some of the most formidable players in the world, but helped his team to an underdog victory over Team DK in the finals. The world was now acquainted with Arteezy.
From there, Arteezy helped form a team with North American Dota 2 giants Clinton “Fear” Loomis and Saahil “Universe” Arora—a squad that was soon signed by Evil Geniuses in early-2014.
From there he had an incredible year, as he made the most of this opportunity—using his teammates to grow into one of the most talented players in the world. It wasn’t simply individual excellence for Arteezy though. He not only helped his team place third at that year’s International, but win five major tournaments—eight in total.
After that, the young player displayed to the world his versatility by joining Team Secret, this time in the Carry role. Once again surrounded by an elite cast, Arteezy had another wholly successful year. Although unable to win The International, he carried his team to four separate major victories.
Near the end of 2015, Arteezy rejoined Evil Geniuses, only now as a Carry player. Although the team had only a few major victories, they were known for their consistent play and always maintaining relevance as a tournament threat. Arteezy embodied this, once again being a reliable and powerful force as a Carry.
After another brief stint with Team Secret as their mid-laner, Arteezy returned to Evil Geniuses—where he has remained ever since. In the years that he’s been on the team since, he has one many premier tournaments, such as the Mars Dota 2 League 2016 Autumn, DOTA Summit 9, and the Manila Masters.
Arteezy’s career has been incredible to observe. Not only is he one of the most exciting players in the game, but he has demonstrated to his fans how important it is to make the most out of any lucky break we’re given. Each time this was presented to him, he tried his absolute hardest to propel him forward into the legend of the game he is today.
